      Tahitian Pearl Jewelry

The dark, mysterious cousin of the classic white pearl, and honestly, the more interesting one. Tahitian pearls come in natural shades of charcoal, peacock, green, silver, and aubergine, and no two are ever exactly alike. We set them in sterling silver and gold, on silk and leather, for pieces that work just as well with a sundress as with a little black dress.

      Tahitian Pearl FAQ

      What are Tahitian pearls?
Tahitian pearls are saltwater pearls grown in the black-lipped oyster in the lagoons of French Polynesia. They're known for their naturally dark colors, large size, and rich luster.

      Are Tahitian pearls naturally dark?
Yes. Their color comes from the oyster itself, not dye. Look closely and you'll often see an "overtone" shimmering over the base color: peacock (green-blue-purple), aubergine (deep purple), pistachio (green-gold), or silver. That's why every strand and every pair is one of a kind.

Why do Tahitian pearls cost more than freshwater pearls?
A black-lipped oyster usually produces just one pearl at a time, and it takes years to grow. Freshwater mussels can produce many pearls at once. Fewer pearls, bigger sizes, and that natural dark color make Tahitians the rarer, more valuable choice.

How do I care for Tahitian pearls?
Last on, first off: put them on after perfume, hairspray, and sunscreen, and take them off before swimming or showering. Wipe them with a soft cloth after wearing and store them separately so harder gems can't scratch them. Pearls love to be worn, so don't leave them in the drawer.
