This Blue Pectolite is the only gemstone ever found in the Caribbean - Larimar is also known as "Ocean Stone", because it was found at the ocean in the Dominican Republic, in 1914. It was later discovered to have been carried there, by the river... It actually came from the mountain! It was forgotten about & only later, mined for a short time in the 70s & 80s until it was mined out - scientists say it was a geological anomaly & that there will never be any more, anywhere. So, it's a big deal! Also, the gentleman whose land it was on, was allowed to name it. So, he named it after his daughter, 'Larissa' & the ocean, 'Mar' - Hence the name, "Larimar". Beautiful, right?!
