Tahitian circle pearls are all about color, and many pearl collectors go crazy for them.
Basically, the circles are caused by the pearl rotating within the oyster during gestation & leaving rings or circles in its nacre. Farmers & scientists are not able to predict or control it - it's kind of a happy accident! Of course, that makes them even more rare & desirable.
What's cool is, that the grooves and circles tend to be saturated in color, while the raised areas of the pearl will be lighter with strong overtones. This contrast of colors and the way light can reflect from many angles at once is why circle Tahitian pearls are usually the most colorful pearls.
