Souffle' Pearls were a 'happy accident' - originally grown by inserting mineral-rich earth into an existing pearl sac, to stretch it, to allow the sack to accommodate larger nuclei. Remarkably, they found that if left to gestate, the mollusks would accept the minerals from the earth & create incredibly rich & colorful, metallic-luster, PEARLS & when drilled, the earth is removed and voilà – a lightweight, thick nacre, hollow pearl with unparalleled color!
