Larimar is also known as, "Ocean Stone". It was only discovered in 1914 in the Dominican Republic & was only mined for about a decade during the 1970s but sadly, mined-out, in the '80s. According to Scientists, this Blue Pectolite formation was a geological anomaly - specific to this ONE geographical location & there will never be any more.Â
The sweetest part of this story is that the gentleman whose land it was on, was allowed to name the stone. So, he named it after his daughter, "Larisa" & the ocean, "Mar" in Spanish - that's why it's called Larimar. <3Â
