Pronounced with a hard K (as in “I want to conk out on my sunbed”), the Queen Conch is a species of sea snail that can be found in the shallow waters of the Florida Keys & it's become the symbol of Key West. Locals born on the island refer to themselves as “Conchs.” And if you stay for 7 years, you'll be called a “Freshwater Conch”!

Prized in jewelry for its durability & beautiful array of pink tones - often reminiscent of precious Angelskin Coral, Conch isn't often seen in carved jewelry, because it's extremely dense & difficult to carve. Shockingly, Queen Conchs are also the 'Mothers' of the rarest & most expensive pearls in the world - the non-nacreous, Conch Pearl. Approximately one in 20,000 will grow a Pearl & they cannot be cultivated - so, they must be found in the wild - making them exceedingly rare & incredibly valuable.

*Note: No Conchs were injured for these shells... Well, not recently. These were harvested long ago - probably, for FRITTERS! We don't take Queen Conchs from local waters, anymore. It's illegal & un-cool.
